Helen Thomas: Israel should get that Hamas was chosen democratically

OCCUPIED JERUSALEM — Noted US journalist Helen Thomas told a Hebrew newspaper that she wonders why Israel cannot absorb the idea that the Palestinian people elected Hamas Movement democratically.
“I do not know why it is difficult for Israel to believe that the Palestinian people elected Hamas,” she told Yedioth Ahronoth newspaper.
Replying to a claim during the interview that Hamas was a terrorist group, she said that she is against violence, but she understands Hamas’s desire to restore what was taken from the Palestinians.
She noted that she is not against Jews but against Zionism and stressed that the Jews must give back what they took from others and is not theirs.
The US journalist added the Jews’ right to exist does not give them the right to seize other people’s land.
The journalist underlined that the Jews in the 1940′s after the end of the second world war had homelands and they should have returned to their homes without having to occupy the country of another people.

The Forcible Transfer of the Palestinian People from the Jordan Valley

Forcible transfer and deportation are terms that commonly evoke images of people being loaded onto trucks or trains or violently driven away.1 Forcible transfer, however, may also take the form of involuntary or induced movement of people resulting from the creation of insecurity, disorder, or other adverse conditions, for the purpose of, or resulting in such migration. Article 49 of the Fourth Geneva Convention prohibits all forcible transfers. Only the security of the population of the occupied territory or imperative military reasons can exceptionally justify total or partial evacuation of an area under occupation. Those evacuated shall be transferred back to their homes as soon as hostilities in the area in question have ceased.
A key criterion to assess the forcible nature of the displacement is whether or not the transfer is the result of the individual’s own genuine choice to leave.2 As developed in the case law of the International Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia (ICTY), forcible transfer is understood as the forced displacement of persons from where they reside to a place that is not of their own choosing and “includes threat of force or coercion, such as that caused by fear of violence, duress, detention, psychological oppression or abuse of power against such person or persons or another person, or by taking advantage of a coercive environment.”3 The ongoing forcible transfer of the Palestinian people from or within the Jordan Valley in the Occupied Palestinian Territory (OPT) is a clear example of this kind of transfer (sometimes misleadingly called “indirect transfer”).
The facts speak for themselves. Although there is uncertainty as to population levels in the past, it is estimated that between 250,000 and 300,000 Palestinians lived in the Jordan Valley on the eve of the 1967 Israeli military occupation.4 After more than 40 years of occupation, the Palestinian population in the area has been dramatically reduced to 56,000.5 However, the displacement of Palestinian people from their homeland is not a phenomenon relegated to the past, but an ongoing process… continue

I agree with Ms. Helen Thomas because her statement makes sense. Let the Misleaders in both Knessets, Washington -Tel Aviv see the logic and bring peace to that part of the world.
Should we as Americans, feel the need to return America proper to the Native Americans ?
Oh those poor Jews, they chose to commit genocide in a place that had already been exposed to all the old world pathogens. Kind of stupid actually. Especially given that in the 20th century they should have known that the end of the colonial era was at hand.

I agree with the comment Walter made.
Native Americans have indeed been wronged, but they are considered to be equal American citizens. Not so for any non jewish Israeli.
James you couldn’t be more wrong if you tried. Why perpetrate a lie? Why suggest that non Jews are subservient or do not have equal rights in Israel? The facts on the ground are much different than the falsehood you seek to spread.
The UN charter specifically states that no land may be obtained by force. That charter didn’t exist when the land was stolen from the Native Americans.
Israel is in violation of the UN charter. And Israel doesn’t appear to care one iota.
Non Jews serve in the Israeli Parliament, so any statement that indicates they are somehow unequal to Jews is both misleading and false.
