Palestinian Authority curbs freedom of expression in the West Bank

MEMO | September 20, 2012

Palestinian Authority curbs freedom of expression in the West BankThe security services in the occupied West Bank have detained more than 60 Palestinians with political backgrounds, including writers, journalists and activists, Al-Dameer Association for Human Rights (DAHR) said on Thursday. At least 35 of those held are former prisoners who served long sentences in Israeli jails; most are affiliated to the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas).

Sources said that the security services started detention campaigns against citizens who took part in the recent demonstrations against price rises in the West Bank. Demonstrators called for Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and his Prime Minister Salam Fayyad to resign.

Prisoner Hisham al-Shirbati, who spent 14 years in prison in Israel, was reportedly in a serious health condition after being admitted to Al-Khalil Hospital. He was tortured severely by Palestinian security services in Hebron, writer Lama Khater alleged.

However, a spokesman for the security services in the West Bank, Adnan al-Dameeri, said that all the people arrested recently are “arm dealers” who tried to hijack peaceful protests. According to DAHR, though, most of those detained are journalists, writers and activists, including the prisoners who were freed by the Israelis just a few months ago.

Ahrar Society for Studies and Human Rights said that its manager, Fuad al-Kefish, also a former Israeli prisoner, is among the detained, as is Waleed Khalid, a journalist who spent two years in solitary administrative detention in Israel and was released just two weeks ago.

DAHR condemned the detentions as a severe violation of human rights and a threat to Palestinian civil society. It called for the PA in the West Bank and the Gaza Strip to stop all political detentions and press ahead with the reconciliation process. It also called on both to respect freedom of speech and freedom of expression.

The West Bank witnessed large scale demonstrations against the Ramallah-based Palestinian Authority’s policies of security collaboration with the Israelis, political detention and the economic crisis. The demonstrations were triggered by a protest against price hikes in which protesters called for the resignation of Mahmoud Abbas and Salam Fayyad.

  1. The Palestinians, like everyone else, can only have political, social and economic justice, by direct popular vote on propositions to be enacted by direct popular vote, into the supreme law of the land, until amended by further proposition, that they alone can change.

The concept is called Pure Democracy. The reality today for most people of the world, is having by whatever name, nonetheless; a Plutocracy; ‘rule by wealth’ and with a totalitarian repressive regime mindset was proven with the passage of the US military budget (NDAA 2012).

There is another term that is appallingly apropos, Kakistocracy: ‘Government by worst persons; a form of government in which the worst persons are in power.’

A powerful piece of proof, that hits home for us in the US, is totalitarianism forced into law, the unconstitutional provisions in the NDAA. I great summation of where it is at in Hedges vs Obama by Stephen Lendman.:

Which bring me to one of the pins I wear, ‘We Are All Palestinians’ and Obama is Netanyahu!

    • Sounds a lot like Khazarocracy Bill. Something North Americans share with Palestinians.

  2. Free-Free-Palestine! Free-Free-America, too!

Usurpation is as Unconstitutional, as it is disgraceful to suffer in silent supplication to fascist gangsters bent on genocide; if not suicide!

So, we must declare, realize and fully enforce our total and complete independence of the Khazarocracy!

A suitable subject to add to the public narrative is the true history of from where, when, and why; the Khazar adopted Judaism during the Crusades, not merely to be neutrals, but middlemen or war profiteers; and the truth of specific timeline and major personalities, need exposure, if not exploitation.

    For example.:

    The fake Jews of Khazaria

    By Hisham Tillawi

‘……. the Khazar Kingdom which occupied the land between the Caspian Sea and the Black Sea. Until the 9th century the Khazars were the masters of the land, very rich due to its vast resources, strategic location and its unrealistic taxation (extortion) systems of surrounding kingdoms. The Khazars adopted the Jewish religion after being pressured to adopt a monotheistic religion similar to the Christians in the West or the Muslims in the East, but decided to adopt Judaism in order to remain independent of the other two religions of the time. As thus the Khazrs or actually their king adopted Judaism for political and security reasons!!!…….’ http://www.ccun.org/Opinion%20Editorials/2008/December/26%20o/The%20fake%20Jews%20of%20Khazaria%20By%20Hisham%20Tillawi.htm

  3. Greetings
The challenge is for the forces who are committed to the rights of indigeneous peoples to self determination to form a broad coalition. Whether the Irish in Northern Ireland, the masses in the Congo, the Palestinians in the global diaspora, inmates in US prisons, the guerillas in Somalia, the Aboriginals of Australia, the Chumash in California the list is long.
Yesterday Africans in unity with the Palestinian struggle united to nationalize back to his base -Black folks -Steve Wonder. His committment to do a benefit for the Israel Defense Force fundraiser in Century City drew the anger of his people Black People-African people in particular. The dialectic of the struggle together with the petition campaign led by progressive Europeans and Palestinians force Brotha Steve into a moral dilema. He chose the side of Peace,Justice and people of color. The campaign culminating in a major demonstration in the midst of the 1% corporate future world of Century City.As the Rolls Royce’s drove to the entryway they were met by a rainbow of protestors chanting,Baby Killers, Racist,Colonialist. There was one carload of Black supporters of the IDF that tried to slip in incog-negro but we caught the and led the chant of Uncle Tom.How can we African people given our experience with slavery, colonialism, segregation, intergration, Neo-colonialism even think about supporting European zionism. Africans wake up, humanity wake up. It was very invigorating campaign.Ready For The Evolution
