US Senate votes to prevent boycotting Israel

Press TV | June 25, 2015

The US Senate has passed a controversial trade bill that contains provisions opposing the growing international boycott movement against Israel.

The Senate passed the measure as part of the Trade Promotion Authority legislation. The legislation was already passed by the House of Representatives and can now be signed into law by President Barack Obama.

The bill was passed under massive pressure from the powerful pro-Israel lobby in the United States.

The provisions require US negotiators to oppose the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movement against Israel during the ongoing free trade negotiations with the European Union.

The BDS campaign seeks to increase economic and political pressure on Israel until the regime ends the occupation and colonization of Palestinian lands and respect the right of return of Palestinian refugees.

“Today, for the first time in nearly four decades, Congress sent legislation to the president’s desk to combat efforts to isolate and delegitimize the ‘state’ of Israel,” US Representative Peter Roskam wrote in a statement released shortly after the Senate vote.

“After today, discouraging economic warfare against Israel will be central to our free trade negotiations with the European Union,” said Roskam, one of the lawmakers who sponsored the provisions.

This comes as several groups and organizations in the European states have already supported the campaign against Israel.

The boycott campaign against Israel began in July 2005 by 171 Palestinian organizations, calling for “various forms of boycott against Israel until it meets its obligations under international law.”

In 2013, two US academic groups — the American Studies Association and the Association for Asian American Studies — supported the boycott.

  1. Is it not time for the US to stop coddling Israel? Time for Israel to face the music for their actions!

  2. Israel as lifelong mahout was produced and developed and is codependently bonded to serve the empire. The mahout has a family, a pension, a duty, and a great lumbering elephant. The loyal mahout will always, as tradition demands, do as the empire directs. This elephant was conceived in America but remembers only vaguely other loyalties, other purposes, and other dreams from before the goad, before the mahout, and from before being harnessed to the empire. The empire turns under the sun from night to day and century to century and with auguries interpreted by priests and implemented by princes, it –the empire, serves only god. The elephant was once a deluded rogue, but domesticated, disciplined and constrained as necessary, the elephant now serves the goad, the mahout, the princes, the empire, and the one true god for whom the world turns and the crops grow to feed the elephant, the mahout, the princes and the empire. Before the empire, there was no need for empire; and after the empire there will be no need for empire. Occasionally, a small thought erupts like a mud fly from larvae –irritating comfort, attention demanding, and buzzing with rebeli#@% –a different tune. But that way is not for timeless comfort. Mahout and goad interrupt, redirect and restore awareness, priority, loyalty, order, tradition and god is served again with our obedience. M\\

    • Alternatively, one could say that empire was produced and developed to serve Jewish supremacy.

The actual facts here, of the US senate vote, would better fit the alternative view.

  3. Hebrews served the Babylonian Empire in a way similar to which Helenistic Judaism served the Roman Empire, as Mizrahim served the Fatimid, Byzantine and Ottoman Empire, as Sephardim served the Umayyad Empire, and as Ashkenazim served the Holy Roman Empire and its derivative imperial royal houses, kingdoms and institutions in western and eastern europe, in Africa and North and South America up to this day and continue to be closely associated with the institution, promulgation and legitimation of financially and militarily compelled and structurally centralized empire over subject peoples who were heretofore entitled to the presumption of human rights, national sovereignty, territorial integrity and self-determination. Empire makes all such entitlements subject to arbitrary withdrawal and reallocation. The American elephant should wake up and remember that it is diametrically opposed to the institution of empire –whether its own, god’s or anyone else’s. M\\
