Hawkish US Republican Senator John McCain has once again accused Moscow of waging a war against the United States.

McCain said on Wednesday Russia’s alleged cyberattacks against US political organizations to influence the 2016 presidential election amount to an “act of war.”

“It’s an act of war,” McCain, a staunch opponent of Russia, told reporters on the US Capitol in Washington, DC.

“If you try to destroy the fundamentals of democracy, then you have destroyed a nation,” said McCain, the chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee.

“I’m not saying it’s an atomic attack. I’m just saying that when you attack a nation’s fundamental structure, which they are doing, then it’s an act of war,” he continued.

McCain also accused Moscow of committing an “act of war” against the United States last week, and demanded stronger sanctions against Russia over the hacking, which the US intelligence community claims amounted to meddling in the US election.

McCain has been a virulent critic of Russia and President-elect Donald Trump, who has repeatedly cast doubt over the claim that Russia launched cyberattacks on the US.

On Thursday, the Senate Armed Services Committee, led by McCain, is to hold the first public hearing in Congress on the alleged hacking.

McCain and other top congressional leaders have pledged to press legislation on sanctions against Russia in addition to those announced by President Barack Obama last month.

On December 22, Obama announced a series of economic sanctions against Russia, as well as expulsion of 35 Russian diplomats, over allegations that it interfered in the 2016 presidential election through cyberattacks.

McCain has criticized the sanctions as insufficient and overdue.

However, Trump, the incoming US president, has repeatedly questioned the accuracy of US intelligence pointing to Russia’s responsibility for the hacks and has said it was time to “move on.”

The US claim has been rejected by Moscow. Julian Assange, the founder of WikiLeaks, which published the stolen emails, has also denied that the Russian government provided the files.

  1. Prior to Facebook’s IPO, Zuckerberg found his NSA-backed Un-Social Media Organization foundering. To get FB from there to being flush, he sought funding. His answer came from Goldman Sachs which brokered a deal w/Alisher Usmanov, the Putin-Head’s chief-assassin and, incidentally, head of Gazprom. The stock Usmanov received was non-voting. No problem. The Face-Slut agreed to turn over tracking algorithms (originating in the original IBM PC main processor chip from 1980) to the Putin-Head which, w/in ~30 days post-IPO, were used to raid/round-up all the anti-Putin dissidents by the secret police.

Here’s some science suggesting that subliminal messaging on the NSA/FB apparat is a problem, also, given credence by FBI Dir. Comey for ’24/7′ subtly prodding ‘terrorists’ (e.g., the San Bernardino slaughter of 14) into violence:

Every month, 1.65 billion people actively use the social media site Facebook. On average, each user spends 50 minutes using the site daily, which doesn’t sound like that much until you consider it’s more time than is spent on any other leisure activity except for watching TV.

In the U.S., Americans spend just 19 minutes, on average, reading each day and just 17 minutes on exercise, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. So the nearly one hour spent on Facebook is significant; it’s about the same amount of time spent eating and drinking (just over one hour).

Spend any time on Facebook and you’ll be inundated with photos and posts depicting other people’s seemingly perfect families and lives. Such posts can induce feelings of envy and lead to unrealistic social comparisons that in turn bring down your mood and level of well-being. It can even lead to depression.3

A new study of more than 1,000 people in Denmark further revealed causal evidence that “Facebook affects our well-being negatively.” Facebook users who took a one-week break from the site reported significantly higher levels of life satisfaction and a significantly improved emotional life, the study revealed.

So, the slavishly pro-Russian flaks ought to moderate their worship of the still-Soviet after all these years, Vlad the Impaler.

  2. How many nations have been victimized by McCain and his ilk who have pretended to bring “democracy” via covert infiltration, meddling in elections, invasions, occupations and other dirty tricks?

What would motivate such lying that risks world war? Does McCain’s bold-faced lying about the alleged Russian hacking buy McCain special medical care to ward-off malignant melanoma?

  3. “If you try to destroy the fundamentals of democracy, then you have destroyed a nation,”

Hasn’t McCain noticed that, that has already happened to the USA by courtesy of the corruption in Washington by the “Moneymen”?
McCain seems to have suffered brain damage over the years. He also looks like a “Chip monk with a mouth full of Wall nuts”, there’s something wrong with that guy. Maybe the bolts in the back of his neck need tightening……
